THIS Bruce canon
1. The Lesson. (Black & White, Gotham Knights #20)
2. Bruce thinking that one of the reasons he admires Lois is because she goes against her father and he can’t imagine ever defying his father. (Superman #168. It also featured Batman watching Clark and Lois have dinner with their parents through a pair of binoculars.)
3. The Black & White story where Batman has been badly/almost mortally wounded and he hallucinates/imagine Gotham talking to him, telling him “together, Bruce, we are the Batman.”
4. Gotham Knights #1: a kid’s parents are murdered. The kid did it. All the family frets that Bruce’s blind spot is going to prevent him from acknowledging that, as Bruce throws himself in investigating all the other possible leads.
5. Bruce telling Alan Scott that Alan doesn’t need to concern himself with the murders he’s investigating, because that kind of crime, “it seems, well… beneath [Alan].” His face when he says that. (Brubaker’s run on Detective Comics, during the arc “Made of Wood”.)
6. Gotham Knights #18: Bruce calling Babs repeatedly to talk shop because he’s lonely and alone and lonely, and his hunching dejectedly when Dick tells him off for cockblocking.
7. Gotham Knights #22: Batman telling Spoiler that he “doesn’t mind” her chattering.
8. Coming back from confronting David Cain while Cass met Shiva for the first time, each beaten black and blue, each reaching for the bruises on the other’s face wanting to know what happened, each turning away, hiding their bruises.
9. Bruce Wayne sending his lawyer when Renee is accused of murder. (Gotham Central)
10. Batman going on a rampage when Jim Gordon’s house is robbed, and getting very angry at Sasha when she says that the guy “robbed the wrong house”, asking if she’s implying that there would have been a right house for him to rob. (And Sasha thinking: he’s always saying/pretending it’s not personal, when of course it’s always personal.)
Bruce/Jason headcanon
1. Happened. I mean, I don’t know if they did it, but they sure as hell want to do it, and they both know it.
2. I’m not sure they had sex or anything when Jason was Robin but Jason certainly tried.
3. Said it before, but: their interactions are always written as though they have sex later. In my head they generally do.
4. Jason subconsciously set himself up at the end of Under the Hood. He knew there was no way Batman would kill or let him kill someone, not when Jason presented it as Bruce’s choice and responsibility. He chose the one situation where he would always lose, so he’d get confirmation that Bruce really didn’t love him after all.
5. Jason owns Bruce. He’s the only thing that makes Batman unsure. Garzonas? Any other Robin would’ve given Bruce even the slightest reason to doubt them would’ve been benched before they had the time to say “holy accident, Batman”. Jason fucks up all of Batman’s coping systems. With Jason, he doesn’t KNOW.
6. Sometimes Bruce’s ability to self-castigate doesn’t thrill Jason, though. Sometimes it makes him angry, because some things Batman can’t help and it’s not his fault even if yes, he’s taken that responsibility. It’s almost always about the things they fight against, as partners.
7. Bruce masturbated to that Case. Hated himself for it, but he did, thinking about Jason all the way.
8. Adoption = because marriage wasn’t legal. That was possibly Bruce’s poorly thought-out attempt at sublimation.
9. Jason gets off on all the power differential and all the ways that thing between Bruce and him goes against society’s morals (and sometimes against Bruce’s morals as well) because he loves how Bruce doesn’t give a fuck about some of it, feels very very guilty about some of the rest, and caves in to Jason anyway. It makes Jason feel more powerful than is legal.
10. Bruce would’ve given Jason anything but that. He still would.
