Tim Drake is forced to step out from behind his keyboard when an international organization seeks to capture or kill super-powered teenagers. As Red Robin, he must team up with the mysterious and belligerent powerhouse thief known as Wonder Girl and a hyperactive speedster calling himself Kid Flash in TEEN TITANS #1, by Scott Lobdell and artists Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund.

WHAT. WHAT IS THAT.

I don't believe I've ever been gladder not to be a Cassie Sandsmark fan. BELLIGERENT. POWERHOUSE. THIEF. I DON'T EVEN.

And, hey, Tim's the one who inherited the hacker genes! In the absence of Oracle!Babs, duh. *haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaates*

So Tim's okay and Steph is still unannounced!

I HATE DC SO MUCH.

What the FUCK?

I. I can't even.

Is he even part of the Batfamily anymore?

No, really, this is all some kind of sick joke, right?

I can't get over how ugly this costume is. Tim just stole Dick's title as the Bat Fashion Disaster for good this time.

I can't stop staring. I just-- why does the costume have wings? What purpose does that serve? Truly, would it be better or worse if the wings actually had a purpose?

Given the colours, I'm going to wager on a yes, or at least that he'll become part of it quickly enough. Because it's not like he's the one who joined the Batfamily because he wanted to join the Batfamily or anything.

If it's a joke, then I have to admire the effort. That's some pretty amazing trolling right there.

Your icon is so appropriate.

I dunno, the art is so ugly it's hard to tell if the costume is ugly, and if it's just how it's drawn. But yeah. Wings whut. It's the dorkiest thing ever.

Even without the art style, there's just too much going on. Belts and straps and a dozen small pouches that are going to be a pain for artists to draw panel after panel. Including some above his elbow (how does he reach them? I DO NOT KNOW.)

And wings. For a badass normal. LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

Okay, so Tim is the new Falcon, apparently. I don't see Redwing, so I guess the hawk flapped off in disgust. Then there's some guy wearing a Superman tattoo and looking like an emo wrestler. Third, there's Faceless Girl Made of Smoke. Fourth, there's a dark-haired woman in a spangly outfit holding what looks like a web. She is suffering from Youngblood's Disease. Fifth, there's a spiny hedgehog-spider-girl who also has white eyes. (Has NO ONE found the cure for Youngblood's yet?) And sixth, there's some guy in what looks like an updated version of the Silver Age Kid Flash costume. Clearly, he's blundered into the wrong comic book.

My only hope at this point is that Linkara will take it upon himself to mock the entire DC Reboot.

Yeah.

(Missing the point: Faceless Girl Made of Smoke made me realize we might be dealing with Secret. She's by far the YJ character I like the least, though, not counting the Ray, so I'm not sure how I feel about that.

and more missing the point: actually, evil!Wonder Girl has blond hair. Her hood's red, but the hair? Blond.)

So, intial thought from the little blurb there: Red Robin is a chain of decent sit down burgers in my area. So there's that.

On the actual image there: I don't hate Kid Flash and Robin costumes. I just hate the Robin costume as a costume FOR ROBIN. If they made a Hawkkid or Hawkboy or Hawkdude and gave him that costume I'd probably be okay. The wings as Robin are just... No.

The Art style is in noooooo way helpful, I grant you, but the outfit isn't a bad design for someone else to wear. Superboy's outfit kinda fits with his 'I hate spandex' mentality but again they just made it look tacky. The others are just... lifeless costumes in ways I can't really comment on.

Still like the KF outfit, it looks pretty keen to me if it was drawn in another style.

... I actually kind of like a lot of those. Especially the Red Robin one. I mean, the wings are tacky as fuck, but it still looks way better than the current Red Robin costume. The other ones, I'm undecided on.

That having been said, "Belligerent powerhouse thief"? The fuck? Also, IDEK what they're trying to do with Tim's origin here.

Never been so glad in my life that I don't really like/read Teen Titans comics. That said, wtf is up with the wings? Did Tim suddenly become the acrobat in the family who loves to fly? 'Cause if he did, I'm gonna be super-pissed. Even more than I am at Batgirl!Babs. I'm with you on being thankful Cas hasn't shown up yet. I'm sure I'll scream if she does.

Why DC, why??

Bwuh. What?

There are no words.

I think it looks silly on Tim. He's the one among the Robin who's always been the most interested in how practical his costume was, and this strikes me as massively impractical. It seems too whimsical for Tim.

Wonder Girl's origin, I don't even. Plus, with the stars on her costume, I can't even be sure it's just Cassie; maybe she's supposed to be a fusion of Donna and Cassie!

I think they're... retconning the Robin out of Tim's origin? And making him either a geek with no link to the superhero comm at all, either at best Batman's internet/information support. (Like I said: Oracle.)

I disagree, there are plenty of words, but they'd be redundant and people would think we were being hyperbolic. Really, the pic's good enough on its own. Worth 1'000 words, that's for certain.

Okay, I can definitely concede that point.

Seriously, how can they believe this is a good idea?

Founding my own comics imprint looks like a smarter business move with every passing month.

That is a point.

Yeah, IDEK what's going on there. It's weird.

I can maybe see how they might pull that off, but it'd be difficult. I have no idea why they decided to retcon him as Robin, especially if he's going to be doing exactly what Babs was.

I think they believe they're going to sell a lot of first issues, because people will want to check it out, and then, in one or three years (depending on whether the Reboot is a complete failure of a narrative device or not), they'll erase everything back into normal. Crisis of Whatever, bringing back the versions of the characters you readers really like!... And so on, and so on.

If I never read another major crossover or crisis event again, in any comics universe, at any time, I will lead a happier and healthier life than I do now. :-(

I think you're right... but I am, as always with high-handed editorial decisions, boggled and infuriated by how little respect comics publishers have for their own customer base. If I had the money, personnel, and the business skills, sheer outrage would lead to me founding Zeitgeist Comics as fast as I could file the paperwork.

It looks that way. Or at least that's an explanation why he'd have them (unless they're technological marvels and let him fly), though I'm with you that it's weird.

I'm with you on being thankful Cas hasn't shown up yet.
Thankful isn't exactly the right word for it. In this case I was talking about Wonder Girl Cassie, though.

Because Dan Didio hates us. Or they're morons. Something.

Have you seen Dick's latest Nightwing costume? I thought he was Jason for a minute, what with the red eyes and all, and shorter hair, but he had escrima sticks, so I wasn't sure. It's definitely Dick though; they confirmed it.

I don't think I want either one to show up right now. D:

And what did they do to Catwoman's hair?!?

Date: 2011-06-08 08:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] runespoor7.livejournal.com
They lost the blue. :( And the porn fingers. :( And Dick hasn't looked so grim dark since the days he was trying to be all work and no play to the Outsiders.

Can't say I saw Selina's hair. I was distracted by the cleavage and the legs. I think that was the goal.

You know, I honestly don't mind Dick going back to Nightwing, but I don't like the red D: And the grim look; you're right. I was too distacted by the Jason eyes to notice before, but ugh.

LOL, all females now have costumes that cover their legs, so they had to show some skin somewhere. Like, have you seen the cover of Red Hood and the Outlaws? Poor Starfire D:

Upon reflection, you're right about the designs. KF's could be funny in a different art style, and someone else mentioned that it's hilarious that Kon's lack of a real superhero costume makes it through the continuities.

Tim with wings is just... Practical Tim wearing a winged costume. What is going on.

Date: 2011-06-08 09:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rakathtalyn.livejournal.com
See, the idea of a reboot for DC didn't bother me originally, because the canon is so large and crazy (like Marvel) that parsing it and redistributing the plots a little might not suck. But I was expecting something along the lines of YJ compared to DCAU not... this.

Its hard to really gauge the costumes properly in this vacuum of no real information. If the wings function then it might be Practical Tim still (which does NOT change that the wings look bad for the character, AND that giving him flight in any form removes from the Robinness of the character).

KF and Kon at least are sticking close to the original. Some of the reaction is the art style and the change itself. (I'll be okay with Kon's outfit if they lampshade the lack of sleeves as practical. Like he blocks a fireball in a tux and goes "This is why I don't wear sleeves" or something.)
