Day Two: Favourite Villain
It all depends whether you consider Jason a villain or not, now, doesn't it? I tend not to. I see him as an antagonist and an anti-hero, and certainly, someone who fills the villain role in most things he appears in, but for some reason I'm still reluctant to call him an all out and out villain. I wouldn't call him a hero either, for what it's worth. Word of God sez he's a villain, though, so maybe I'm just in denial, but comics are a media where differing interpretations are part of canon, so...
Ruling Jason out, I don't know how to answer this question at all. I like most villains just fine, either as villains either as characters in their own right, and I'm much more invested in the good guys. The Batfamily gets enough ambiguity as it is without me needing to go look for it in the villains, you know? I love most of the Bat rogues. Joker, Two-Face, the Penguin, Riddler... Out of the Gotham villains, I haven't read enough to be one hundred percent certain, but I like Luthor a lot. I like Deathstroke, as well. I like Ra's and Talia when she's not written as an evil rapist.
I'm probably going to go with the Joker, because I'm original like that and I like the symbol.
Generally speaking, though, I prefer stories where the enemy to be defeated isn't one villain, but some other, less definable force: the corruption and loneliness of Blühaven, the cold and slow madness of No Man's Land, Bruce's most recent crisis of unhelpfulness, the difficulty of being a cop in Gotham, time ticking down the clock to the next murder, the one-time non-costumed bad guy who is so hard to find and whose acts resonate like horror in the protagonist's mind. The most striking among this last sort of villain that I can remember off the top of my mind are the villain in Batman: Gotham Knights #1 and the one in the Dead Robin arc of Gotham Central.
