I'm taking the opportunity that I have five free minutes to put my Theories into words, so that when they don't get utterly Jossed I'll be able to dance and obnoxiously sing "I TOLD YOU SO / SO CALLED IT."
1. Tsunade = dead Hokage
Tsunade is gonna diiiiiiiie. ;_; She's gonna bite it, get the ax, suffer the Flashback o' Doom treatment.
Every single chapter that's coming in shows Tsunade going "I'M THE HOKAGE AND HAVE A DUTY TOWARD MY VILLAGE O:<" and kicking ass and having Faith in Naruto and spouting things such as "we need to trust the new generation, it's their job to protect Konoha now", all of which is diminishing her chances of survival by dreadful amounts.
On the one hand it's sad, 'cause I love Tsunade, on the other hand I'd be really happy is Kishi kills a female on the side of good, for once.
And also, the other two Sannin are dead, and Sasuke and Naruto each grew past the shadow of their mentor, and Tsunade dying would give Kishi an opportunity to focus more on Sakura.
I hope it'll be kickass.
2. Sasuke = is right
Kishi is preemptively justifying Sasuke going after, and maybe even effectively killing, the elders.
That's one of the reasons he got Danzou to kill the toad messenger to get Naruto back (the other reasons are that it allows him to delay Naruto's return, and of course milking the Tsunade/Danzou tension for all it's worth).
Because I think it's telling that the elders suddenly stopped kicking a fuss in the face of Tsunade's determination to get Naruto back, and that after everyone left the room Danzou appears and kills the messenger.
It seems probable, if not obvious, that the elders were the ones who went and warned Danzou.
So the elders are in the same bag as Danzou, and if Tsunade and/or other people die because of that interference of theirs, then taking action against them is the right thing. They're traitors.
Sasuke may not be after them for the "right reasons", but he's in the right.
3. Team Seven = 0T3 Forever
This ain't a theory, just a reminder of what I'm rooting for. Also, FACT.

For the first time in awhile, I've been pretty excited for the new chapters - can't wait to see what happens next
(though a little team gai wouldn't go amiss!

Date: 2008-10-29 12:49 pm (UTC)I wish I could say the same. But frankly, I find Pain boring, so the perspective of what, six fights against his bodies is... I hope that means other characters will get to kick ass.
I want to knooooow what they're doing.

Date: 2008-10-31 03:51 pm (UTC)I can't possibly agree with you more at this moment. I won't deny that Sasuke and Naruto's friendship is one of the most developed in the manga, but for this reason people tend to forget what an important part of their team Sakura is. My dream is for her to fight Sasuke one on one and give him a nice, big punch in the face, but I know not to hope for that. I'll settle for hoping that she'll help Naruto next time they fight to save Sasuke.
I wouldn't say that Sasuke is going to be shown as being right since he's planning on destroying all of Konoha right now, but I definitely think things are getting morally blurry. It's obvious that if Sasuke were just going after the elders then he has justification. I think this is all he's going to end up doing anyway, but right now what he's planning makes him look really evil, even if he ends up not going through with it. Even though killing them would be justified, I still have problems seeing Sasuke doing it just because of what he's done so far.
It's like even though he has every right to do it, it would still seem wrong, like a cherry on the top of his evil sundae. Bad metaphor, I know, it's just...bleh, like I said, I can't figure out what message Kishi's trying to convey right now. Sasuke's wrong, Danzou's wrong, Madara's wrong, Konoha might be wrong, EVERYONE is wrong except Naruto because he's the main character and him being wrong would rip a hole in the fabric of space time.

Date: 2008-10-31 09:47 pm (UTC)That's been my dream ever since Sasuke walked out and took her out and said thank you. I have no explanation for how much that pissed me off. Condescending much? But yeah, I agree that it's not going to happen.
I didn't get that Sasuke was planning to destroy the whole of Konoha. I thought he'd said that he was only planning on killing the elders. Who have now been shown as treacherous anyway, if they really did disobey Tsunade's orders.
As for actually killing them, I suspect Kishi will come up with a suspiciously conveniently karmic retribution that will once again avoid getting actual blood on Sasuke's hands.
Sasuke's wrong, Danzou's wrong, Madara's wrong, Konoha might be wrong, EVERYONE is wrong
I don't know, that sounds like a message to me, and one we're pretty accustomed to by now. The entirety of Part I was devoted to showing that the hidden villages and most of the rest of the ninja world are wrong, and that they're still worth fighting for.

Date: 2008-11-03 08:15 am (UTC)Tsunade dying brings back painful memories of Remus dying. I WANTED TO KEEP AT LEAST ONE CHARACTER FROM THAT GENERATION. TSUNADE, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. T____________________T
One thing about Kishi: he's so damn effective at making you lurve the character in the arc he's gonna kill them. For me at least.
I'm not too bothered about the lack of Tsunade-and-Sakura interaction. I feel like their relationship was better defined than Naruto and Jiraiya's or Sasuke and Orochimaru's. And besides, we're quasi-certainly going to be treated to at least one or two flashbacks, so the presence of some nice Sakura-Tsunade moments wouldn't be out of place. But it will be heartbreaking. ;_;
