Some drabbles I wrote for the current challenge at [livejournal.com profile] hp100 , "Alternate Sortings".

Title: The Definition of Defiance

A/N: In every reality, Lily Evans is a witch.

It never matters if Potter bumped into her at the station or if she sat with Rosier in the train, if she read a book because she was bored, if she ate a Frog and found a card.

It varies like the scarf around her neck, like the name she takes when she marries, like the mentor she sides with.

She snaps, shrugs, or bows. Ultimately she does as she pleases.

She lays her plan alone, prepared, knowing.

Lily's always grateful for her Sorting (bravery or loyalty or intelligence or determination) when she takes the curse intended for her child.

Title: If That Motivation Won't Change
Characters/Pairings: Regulus Black

He should have chosen Ravenclaw when given the choice. Gryffindor couldn't be as perfect as his brother depicted it. There had to be a catch. (There was.) Only a Gryffindor, Regulus reflected, would be stupid enough to choose Gryffindor over Ravenclaw.

And of course, he had acted in fine Gryffindor tradition by joining the Death Eaters after a spectacular row with his brother.

Now he was supposed to "prove his loyalty" by killing the git. Regulus sighed. It was time to face Voldie and tell him to fuck himself. That'd remind him to never underestimate Gryffindor foolishness again. He snorted.

Title: Disquieting
Characters/Pairings: Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter

"Your House doesn't define who you are," his mother had told him. "Your blood does."

Draco had listened, because he had heard Things about a sister of his mother, who had been a proper Slytherin and had committed blood-treacherousness. He had never perceived flaws in her logic.

Anyway, the point was that he believed her.

He believed her until Potter decided to punish him for vilifying the good name of Slytherin House. There were older students in the common room who revised for the exams, looking annoyed with the noise. They thanked Potter when his spell obligingly silenced Draco's screams.

Title: The Mirror Doesn't Flatter
Characters/Pairings: Narcissa Malfoy

The mirror doesn't flatter her because she doesn't need to be flattered. She's beautiful, like everyone in her family. Narcissa is grateful for it.

Loyalty to her family has made her what she is, she reflects as she combs her long hair with languid moves. She watches herself in the mirror, watches her graceful moves as she slowly disrobes. Gratitude for her ancestors overcomes her as she details her perfect figure.

She's naked in front of her mirror in her bathroom, and she curses her Sorting. Her loyalty has taken the shape of an ugly mark that mars her forearm.

Title: Dirty Talk

A/N: Er. I suppose I should apologise. Remus/Lily, Lily/James, Remus/Sirius. Or so it should be.

"Oh, James!..." she gasped, breathless. He immediately withdrew and she whimpered a protest.

"How many times did I tell you not to say that name now?" he growled.

"Says who?... Sirius, so tight, yes…" she mimicked, sneering.

"Shut. Up."

"Careful, Lupin. You don't want to upset your closest link to Black. Housemates 'Hello Black, fuck off Evans'. Unless you'd rather make without my services? Would you rather I told him how you'd gladly accept his offers?"

"You wouldn't."

She finished tying her green scarf, ignoring the broken Gryffindor on the floor of the Prefect bathroom. "Tomorrow, same hour," she ordered.
