Prompt: 068 - Lightening
Characters/Pairings: Andromeda, the Black children
Rating: G
Words: 700
Summary: Something goes awry. The kids freak.
Notes: mild crack.

Andromeda examined the disaster with a critical eye. Behind her, someone gasped – Regulus or Narcissa, she didn't look. She nodded sagaciously several times, then stood up and wiped her hands on her robe, before turning to face her audience.

"S-so?" Sirius stuttered, in a perfect alliteration.

"I'm afraid you were right," she announced. "There's nothing to be done."

Sirius squeaked pitifully.

"You're screwed," she told him with the glee that trumpeted I-told-you-so.

Neither Regulus nor Narcissa reacted at her naughty word, a testament to the gravity of the moment. Sirius' eyes were wide and shining with tearful horror – and he was not going to cry, was he? He was too old for that.

"Sirius, Bellatrix is going to kill you," Regulus' awed tone said it all.

Narcissa nodded furiously, blond hair whispering. She looked more nervous than she should have been, considering it was Sirius who'd got in trouble with Bella, and Andromeda wondered if maybe she was afraid that Bella would think Cissy had had a hand in it, but everyone knew that Cissy could hardly be suspected of being a practical joker.

"What can I do?" Sirius sounded panicked. It was the sensible thing to do, one had to admit, especially since Bella had just come back from her first year at Hogwarts. Her knowledge of hexes must be pretty unlimited now. Andromeda thought she could probably take her, but wasn't bored enough to test the theory.

Besides, Sirius was squirming.

"Go to Uncle Alphard's," came Narcissa's frantic answer. "H-he'll take you to T-thailand and you'll be safe until she has to leave for Hogwarts."

Regulus tore his gaze from Bellatrix' unconscious body. "He left yesterday." The morbid fascination in the six-years-old's voice was a perfect compliment to Sirius' greenish dismay.

"Oh."

Andromeda surveyed the three younger children's consternation. She, personally, found the situation rather amusing, and she eagerly awaited the moment Bella woke up and looked in the mirror. She'd just stand on the sidelines, laughing. Oh, but she'd drive Bellatrix crazy with smug insinuations that she'd always known she, Andromeda, was the true Black. She'd even get to be subtle this time, because Bella was going to be paranoid for – at least as long as the effects lasted. Maybe weeks!

Narcissa was still fretting.

"But how did it happen?" she whined. "Tell me how it happened!" she demanded of a wincing Sirius.

"I-I don't know! She – she just opened the door without knocking, and –" he gestured helplessly at Bella's stretched form.

A heavy silence fell on the group, and significant glances were exchanged. Everyone knew not to enter Sirius' room without knocking. Everyone. Even the house-elves. Doing otherwise could be scarring. Or, as Bella had just proved, dangerous. You did not enter Sirius' room without knocking, because of all the magical residues and hexing experimentations that went on behind his closed door. It was not a rule easily forgotten.

Clearly Bella's time at Hogwarts had done more than just teach her interesting new spells.

"Okay," Andromeda decided. "Hogwarts is dangerous on the brains. Everyone, you have to remember to be especially nice to Bella every time she comes back. We have to protect her until she grows a brain back."

Suddenly, Phineas' complaints about Hogwarts' current Headmaster seemed perfectly justified. She was still a year away from going to the school, but she made a note to be extra careful about the man, and to never ever trust him. Obviously, he must be something, if he could make Bella forget such important survival rules of the Black summer residence.

The three others gravely nodded, though the boys' eyes were still a bit wide. It satisfied Andromeda, who knew that she could count on Narcissa's determination to make things go smoothly. In Andromeda's mind, the idea went something like this: the three would go a little easier on Bella, and she would stir up Bella's intellectual development with cleverly devised sarcasm. It was all good.

Also, it wasn't as if Bella's magical skills were anything to be particularly afraid of, as far as she was concerned. Conceivably, the kids could be impressed, but her?

She was going to have so much fun, she thought as she regarded at Bella's shiny platinum locks with glee.

OMG! I adore this! I love tales involving young wizards and not only are all concerned age appropriate here but true to what I would expect of their personalities.

They must all have been such brats. (Did they ever stop being brats?) This is one of my favourite among the fics I wrote in HP fandom, thanks for letting me know you liked it!

Well imagine that you were a kid that really could do magic. Not only that but all of your playmates could too! It's a wonder that wizards didn't actually take over the world (ala Grindelwald, Voldieshorts, Lucius, ect.) or die out of tragic childhood accidents or parents brains melting!
One of my favorite characters is Arthur Weasley and I adored when he confronted Harry about sneaking away from the group trip to WWW. Didn't he point out something along the lines of he had managed to raise the twins 'til they were of age?
