Title: That Unavoidable Discomfort
Author:
runespoor7
Prompt: 008 - Weeks
Characters/Pairings: Andromeda
Rating: PG
Words: 300
Summary: Seven days. Out of each freaking month. For the rest of her life.
Notes: nothing graphic. possible crack?
On some days, Andromeda wakes up with a searing back ache, heavy legs, and a feeling that she might be ill. Then she stumbles to the bathroom and realises that she hasn't, in fact, earned a quiet day in bed in the hospital wing, whimpering under her covers that she wants to diiiiiiie, but that she's on her menses. It always leaves her gobsmacked and vaguely cheated; what? It's been a month? Already?
Glaring at her face in the mirror, suddenly very awake indeed, she tries to count the days backward. This is hopeless, as Andromeda, at age sixteen, consistently forgets the date of Bellatrix' birthday (Narcissa always makes a point to drop, before going to her dormitory, "Remember, tomorrow's my birthday."). Finally she concludes that it must probably have been more or less a month, with a suspicious narrowing of her eyes that says plainly that she, in any case, doesn't think it has been enough, before stomping out of the bathroom, in a bad mood for the rest of the day.
The wizarding world doesn't know a lot about hormones.
Andromeda keeps reminding herself she can live through the week without committing suicide or razing the entirety of Hogwarts, an idea that grows decreasingly attractive as the week goes by and Andromeda has less and less energy, up until the time she just drags herself to the nearest sofa, armchair, or infirmary bed, closes her eyes and sleeps her way through the end of this nightmare.
Then she wakes up with a bad taste in her mouth, unclear memories, and the sensation that she has spent seven days playing Quidditch. As a Bludger. When she reaches the bathroom and realises that it has ended finally!!!, she gains a bounce to her step and a radiant smile, because She Has Made It Through The Week That Doesn't End.
She promptly disbands the thought that other weeks will come.
