I was thinking about WHY I regard Jim Gordon as part of the Bat-Family, and it boils down to two things.
A) He's an... in-law, at least? I mean, Babs is part of the bat-Family, and he's part of her family... but obviously that isn't enough; I never thought of Tim's dad as part of the Batfam.
B) The paternal (or at least avuncular) way he acts around Robin. The concern, the shrewd advice, and still that solid core of respect, despite the fact that he has serious doubts (at best) about whether the Robins should exist.
