runespoor: close-ups of naruto and sakura's face as sakura looks up and breathes sasuke-kun's name; the word bubble is empty. (sasuke-kun || narusaku is all about)

*Disclaimer: I haven't read regularly Naruto since some point in the Pain fight, one chapter or two after Hinata's confession - because Akatsuki = not my drama*

I can't believe that the argument some people have against the declaration is 'I can't believe Kishi did that - what about Hinata???' to which my reaction is, what about Hinata? Hinata is to Naruto what Lee is to Sakura, filtered through Kishi's gender roles.

Secondly and much more importantly than the Hinata stuff - which to me is a non-issue - I can't believe that people are surprised that TEAM SEVEN IS FUCKED UP WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR FEELINGS.

They really, really are.

They're a co-dependent, stunted mess, they're stuck when it comes to their feelings and it's nothing remotely new. Because what Sakura says about Sasuke is true, and the whole village knows it, and Naruto so completely can't hear it that he tells her she's lying. And Sakura's less special than either of them and she is more aware of the rest of the village and maybe she thinks she ought to cut her losses and maybe she's even right and she's not in love with Sasuke anymore, but that girl's been living for more than three years to get him back and she still loves him even when she thinks she shouldn't.

This scene is the latest in a long series of post-timeskip scenes that feature Sakura worrying about Naruto and Naruto utterly failing to get that she's talking about him. Whether you think she's in love with him or not is irrelevant, because that's how the people around her are interpreting her concern, and they've told her so - pressured her into admitting it.

I'm not happy that Kishi made Sakura 'the bad guy' by making her doubt Sasuke's return, but I'll reserve final judgment until I see how long that lapse in staunch, crazy, immature, blind devotion lasts. Because there's no doubt to me that Kishi is going to bring Sasuke back to Konoha and prove Naruto right. Of course Naruto doesn't believe her. He's the same boy who said he wasn't worthy of becoming Hokage if he couldn't his friend; by the same token, he doesn't think he's worthy of her love until he brings Sasuke back. They all love one another and the statu quo isn't going to be allowed to change until Sasuke gets back. Because Naruto won't let it.

And may I say, that half-page of Naruto flash-backing to the highlights of SasuSaku he was a witness brought tears to my eyes.

My OT3, I love it and they are fucked-up.
