[Meme] PAIRING MEME
Jan. 22nd, 2008 04:02 pmTELL ME YOURS TOO. INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW.
I'm just doing Naruto, because my tiny tiny brain can't handle juggling with several fandoms at once. (Oh, Ron/Hermione, Legolas/Gimli, Sheena/Zelos, Ike/Soren, Ed/Al,AkuRoku one week and Kingdom Hearts leeches into my soul, I have not stopped loving you.)
One True Pairing Ship:
NejiHina. Their match did it. First, it's obvious that the boy's obsessed with her. Second, Hinata may not be obsessed with him at all, she understands him perfectly well. So well that, in fact, Neji can't stand it and snaps. That's the third reason, the tension and the power issues: Neji is stronger, but Hinata can pull his strings. Their fight is the only one where someone touches the other's clothing. THE ONLY ONE. And this a manga where many, many outfits lend themselves to it - grabbing or pulling or anything. This is a manga with bow-shaped ropes that make perfect handles and long cloaks/coats things. All we have is Neji holding Hinata's arm and pushing her sleeve up. *_______* If finding it irremediably hot makes me a bad person, I don't care.
TemaShika. I liked it ever since the beginning of their match, and was overjoyed by the Temari-rescues-Shika pages. The bickering! The tension! Temari going "STFU, I didn't ask you for your opinion, loser" when Shika tells her they should retreat! SHIKAMARU GOING "EVEN MORE SCARY THAN MUM" AND TEMARI'S SMILE. (Shika's original thoughts reminded me so much of Ron's opinion of Hermione upon first meeting her that it was impossible for me not to ship them. Also, I love Shika's "ew, girl cooties" and Temari making him sound like he really is only 13.)
NaruSasu. You have no idea how long I spent in denial about this. Not because it's omg slash (hahaha), but because I didn't want to be the kind of person who 'typecast' her ships. And until the Valley of the End, I was doing pretty well too. (I was only a casual reader when I read the Wave Country Arc, so the Sasuke-throwing-himself-in-front-of-Naruto wasn't as hard to deny as it would've been later on.) When I reached VotE, I finally gave up on denial.
NaruSakuSasu. As if you didn't see that one coming.
Canon Ship:
I say "TemaShika", I'm gonna be in trouble, aren't I. Well, I honestly think it's heavily implied and/or going to become canon at some point. To take the Ron/Hermione parallel further; they weren't going out before the end of book seven, but we all knew it was there. (all of us who weren't in denial, I think. Even if you shipped Harry/Hermione and thought it'd be better for the characters, I think the Ron/Hermione tension was too much to ignore.)
.......................I like Minato/Kushina, I suppose. As long as Kishi doesn't go any further in his sekrit plot to reveal that he needs a dictionary in order to look up words such as 'tomboyish'. (meself, I've claimed A Surprise (Tactic of Sorts) is canon and that's why Kushina was embarrassed.)
Or, well, Shikaku/Yoshino. It's like TemaShika except Shikaku's doing the Mediterranean male thing of 'I'm totally in control. rly. I am. not at all whipped. I r cool and composed, and my wife ttly does not have her way with everything.' and Yoshino screams and yells and calls him lazy and that's just how their marriage works.
JiraTsu. :(
"If this happens I'll stab my eyes with a fork" Ship:
KibaHina. Look, I already don't like NaruHina, so plz don't throw Hinata at some Naruto-lite clone just for the sake of getting her out of the way. At least Hinata likes Naruto and maybe something would perhaps happen that'd make Naruto notice Hinata a little more.
InoShika. hahahahahano. I got nothing against it as a 'I think their interaction would be so great if they were a couple', but the 'omg canon' annoys me. They are not canon, much less omg about it. Ino is more aware that Chouji is a boy and Shikamaru thinks Ino is the same as Sakura.
"You're a sick bastard" Ship:
ItaSasu. I like it better when it's subtextual/one-sided on Sasuke's part, because I don't think it'd be half as hard for him if it weren't. Also, I'm not convinced Itachi has anything resembling a sex drive.
KabuHina. This lends itself to the gothic genre so well.
"I dabble a little" Ship:
InoSaku. More than that, really, but I don't think it's an OTP yet. I love it because of their match, true, but mostly because of Ino's face when Sakura fights for her boys in the Forest of Death, and for the way she throws herself in front of the three Sound ninjas. If you're a regular reader of my lj, you'll know I'm a huge Ino fan just for this reason, and I strongly believe that was one of the most heroic things in the manga. She just threw herself in front of Sakura, when she was convinced that she and her team were the weakest to enter the exam. aklsdjljlsd. How much more of a parallel to Sasuke throwing himself in front of Haku's needles can it get? And Ino kept the ribbon she'd given to Sakura. For years. The mind boggles. (And I think Sakura could eventually return her feelings, because she has it in her to grow up and love her team without needing to be in love with them, to be there without being in the same bed, while I don't think either Naruto and Sasuke could.)
Suigetsu/Karin. Or, hum, you know, Team Hebi interaction. In general. Where I can amuse myself by bringing my own subtext. Hum. Don't judge me?
KabuOro. I love 'em. They have this weird relationship where Kabuto can be cheeky and disrespectful and Orochimaru is annoyed.
KisaIta. I know I said Itachi is asexual, but it's different, it's partnership. And I think Kisame likes Itachi enough to take care of him.
"It's like a car crash" Ship:
NaruIno. 'They're in love with their rivals who have shacked up.' heartbroken, misery-loves-company type of thing. *______* unrequited is so pretty.
OroSasu. Actually, this could fit the 'you're a sick bastard' or 'canon' description equally, if only because Sasuke is only, you know, selling his body to Orochimaru. I don't really think it was meant to read like subtextual prostitution, so I'll let this one drop, but yeah. Subtextual prostitution. My views of this have been heavily influenced by
crazy_toffee's writings.
NaruOro. NO WAIT LISTEN. So there's this unhappy future where Oro's taken over Sasuke, right? And Naruto loves Sasuke and Orochimaru is in the way and Sasuke is disappearing and Naruto is clinging to whatever fading bits are left of him and oh how he hates Orochimaru and it's Sasuke's face and it's not right. It doesn't even need to be sexual. :D
Sannin. Except I like it better when they pretend to be all platonic about each other, 'cuz it's angstier. :)
"Tickles my fancy but not sold quite yet" Ship:
GaiKaka. I'm probably never going to write it, as I have no Gai voice and no Kakashi voice to speak of, but I read whatever few fics are written about the couple. I like it because it's not romantic, in any sense of the word (romantism? includes drama), but it's a strange mix of the common-sense and utter weirdness.
NaruSaku. The main trouble I have with this is that to me, this exists for Sasuke. In my head, NaruSaku is just Team Seven OT3 before they manage to drag Sasuke back.
LeeGaa. I like it, I like 'em, their interactions, their personnalities, the potential for crack and serious, but there's always that shadow of 'oh, really?' in the back of my mind. Dunno why.
"Makes no canon sense but why the hell not" Ship:
KibaHanabi. He would fluster her and they would bicker and it would be such a wonderfully clichéd romance and they could have drama and frustration and screaming matches at the top of their lungs and did I mention drama? and the supporting characters omg supporting characters like HIASHI and Hinata and Neji who'd be having their own not-so-secret-so-much-as-no-one-realises-it's-here relationship and Inuzuka/Hyuuga hijinks and c'm'on, I can't be the only one to whom the idea appeals, right?
IruAnko. Look, when they were kids he was a troublemaker and I go with the idea that she very much wanted Orochimaru-sensei to like her so she'd have been a right stick-in-the-mud, and then they grew up and he was the responsible adult and she was the bad girl who'd been Orochimaru's student.
Pimp!Ino. InoGaara. InoKankuro. InoHiashi. InoNeji. InoKiba. InoLee. InoJuugo. I could go on.
SasuHina. It would be so cute and awkward if he'd had/had a crush on her. ^____^ socute. Just... no arranged mariage plz.
"Everyone likes it but I just don't feel it" Ship:
KakaIru. Get me started not.
KakaSasu. I see why their interaction would draw people in, but I... don't feel it. and also I think maybe it squicks me just a little, I'm sorry. D: I don't have that problem with KakaSaku, but I think the link mentor/student is much more present in Kakashi/Sasuke dynamics, and also the fact that they basically fill the same place in their team dynamics is NOT HELPING.
...GaaHina. ItaSaku. GaaSaku. You know. That sort of thing. Or at least the fanon of it, and I'm not interested in it enough to look for good fics/write my own.
The usual suspects ships, I guess. NaruHina SasuSaku NejiTen InoShika, though it probably has a lot to do with the fanon use of these ships exactly like that: a huge big ass list of ships, because girls can't, you know, not be in a relationship, that's not nice.
"When all is said and done" Ship:
One of the four in the beginning, or just one of the three.
