In her dream, Andromeda was eating ice-cream, but she didn't know which flavour it was. She told Ted (still in her dream) and then he told her it was not ice cream but cotton candy.

She asked him, How can you be sure?

He said he'd made it for her, and Andromeda shook her head and dropped it on the floor.

When she woke up, she didn't remember the dream very clearly, but she still could tell Ted about it. “And you know,” she reflexively said, “the strangest thing is that I've never even eaten cotton candy.”

She wouldn't have, it was a Muggle treat.

Ted had told her a lot about it, how he'd get his parents to buy him one at least once a week when he was a kid. She snorted and shook her head and said that it sounded vaguely sickening anyway, but she couldn't shake the feeling that Ted was looking at her strangely.

It was Sunday. They spent the afternoon – which ended depressingly early, as it was November – in a park somewhere, and Ted in fact managed to get a huge cotton candy in her hands. Andromeda was unsurprised to find it sticky and vaguely sickening, but she ate it all the same, frowning as if she were conducting an experience, as if she was expecting the cotton candy to tell everything there was to be told about Ted and his childhood.

It must've been boring, she decided before taking another mouthful of cotton candy – still sticky and even more sickening, but of a disturbingly addictive substance.

A few instants later, Ted was begging her to give him some, and she told him precisely where he could stick it, and if he wanted one then he'd bloody well better get one for himself. Then they sort of wrestled for it – Andromeda at least being entirely contrary – and seeing that neither particularly relished the perspective of sickeningly sugary substance spread all over their clothes or hair, it sort of ended up on the ground.

But it was all right, because they were starting to get really cold out there, and because they'd caught the incident as an occasion to taste each other's mouth.

Ted had been drinking coffee and it did wonders washing away the sugary candy.

Not finishing the thing meant that she'd have to try all over again because Ted would argue she hadn't properly tasted, but Andromeda found she didn't mind. It would be another day, in the future. As far as she was concerned, any future would do if it featured Ted, even if it somehow involved cotton candy.

Then she wanted to cry because she hated the word 'forever'.
