I don't think she views herself as such. She's used to loving people intensely, she just didn't expect anyone would love her back with the same intensity. When that happens, Batman becomes her favourite child because (she thinks) he loves her the same way she loves people. She doesn't get that what he's fighting are the parts of her that he doesn't love, so she keeps on giving him more. It's not helping that 'fighting something' and 'fighting for something', to her, are exactly the same thing ...Yeah.

Gotham and Batman = very fucked-up.
