DC with daemons

Writing some stuff on that - and I keep running in the same problems. (I hate making up names.) (I hate deciding daemon shapes.)

What the hell would Talia's daemon be. (if I listened to my first instinct, I'd go "cat", but that's not a good idea for many reasons. Or "cougar", but I'm not sure that's not a worse idea.) And other people. Like Jim. Or Dick, who I only know gets a bird. (Nothing is beautiful and loving and brave and reckless enough for Dick. Nothing.)

Heh, now I'm reminded of that website I used to keep to archive ideas of Lunar exalted by their animal totems.

I'd say Swallow for Dick - if there's a bird that symbolises "grace" it would be the swallow.

I don't know Talia very well, but my first instinct is Lynx for her. Make of that what you will.

It's terribly clichée, but a dog for Jim? A terrier, maybe?

(Various wikis tell me Lyra noticed most servants have dog daemons.)
wow, I didn't remember His Dark Material having that sort of nasty classist undertone.

Wolf isn't bad, definitly often associated with honour which works well with Gordon's stand against corruption.

Aah, okay, yes, that makes sense that way.

What about a fennec fox? It's fiercely family-oriented, it can survive in situations that could kill other animals (such as living without available water), it can be kept in a domestic setting but definitely is NOT domesticated, it's highly intelligent, it's elusive and it's difficult to capture. And while it has a fair number of deadly enemies, the species isn't even close to extinction. Basically, it's a survivor.
